Jane Poynter bio
Jane Poynter, author, researcher, technology executive, gained celebrity status as a Biospherian, a member of the eight-person team of environmental researchers who spent two years sealed inside Biosphere 2, the 3.15 acre, glass-enclosed experiment in creating a fully life-sustaining environment. The $150 million dollar project of a decade ago in Oracle, Arizona became a major news story all over the world. Before actually entering the sealed space she and many others spent years working on the planning and development of Biosphere 2, and before that she went through several years of intensive training to prepare for the extreme challenges she would be facing.
Prior to her time with the Biosphere 2 project, she had been an actress, sailor and athlete, but her experience with this area of science led her and her husband, Taber MacCallum, who was also a member of the Biospherian team, to found the Paragon Space Development Corporation, of which she is president. The Tucson, Arizona company is deeply involved in developing space exploration systems and the creation of environments enabling human life to exist in space.
Her forthcoming book, The Human Experiment: Two Years and Twenty Minutes Inside Biosperhere 2, documents in detail the extraordinary experiences she and the others went through in their two years of isolation in Biosphere II.
